Overview

Job Title: Maintenance Technician 

 

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager.

 

Contract: Permanent.

 

Location: Kilbeggan Co. Westmeath

 

Role Summary:

Dawn Meats Group is one of Europe's leading beef and lamb processing companies with locations across Ireland, UK, France and continental Europe employing over 8,000 employees.

 

We are seeking a hands-on, reliable Maintenance Technician to join our team in a busy meat processing facility. The role involves maintaining and repairing a wide range of equipment and systems to keep production running smoothly and safely. Electrical skills are highly desirable, as many of our machines rely on automated or electrically controlled systems

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be based at our primary production plant in Kilbeggan and their duties will include:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production equipment, machinery, and utilities

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and carry out reactive repairs to minimise downtime

  • Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of new machinery or equipment

  • Conduct fault-finding on mechanical and electrical systems (motors, sensors, control panels, conveyors, etc.)

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete job sheets

  • Ensure work is completed in line with health & safety, food safety, and hygiene standards

  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to improve equipment reliability and performance

  • Identify and report recurring issues or improvement opportunities

Qualifications

Your role will see you tackle a wide range of business challenges in a busy Maintenance/Engineering environment.

 

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment, ideally in meat or chilled food sectors

  • Strong mechanical maintenance skills (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, conveyors)

  • Electrical experience or certification (e.g., fault-finding, wiring, PLCs, sensors)

  • Ability to read technical drawings and manuals

  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach

  • Comfortable working in cold or wet environments (PPE provided)

  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, or on-call as needed

Qualifications 

  • Relevant trade or technical qualification (mechanical/electrical/engineering)

  • Electrical certification (advantageous but not essential as training will be provided)

  • Basic IT skills for reporting and logging maintenance tasks
